Kuril Lake is among the unique natural sites of South Kamchatka Federal Reserve. It is the largest spawning lake of the peninsula. It attracts many brown bears. About 200 of them live on the lake’s shore. The bears are not afraid of people because they are under protection of South Kamchatka Federal Reserve.
The lake has several islands made up of lava cones with heights going from 200 to 300 meters: Chayachi, Nizki, Serdtse Alaida and Samang archipelago. On the north-eastern shore of the lake stands Ilyinsky volcano.
It’s a pleasure to bathe in the thermal water of hot Khodutka river after flights.
