Its last explosive eruption with an ash column dates back to 1960/1961. However in 2000 and 2007 phreatic explosions took place.

Located in the eastern range, this volcano belongs to Mutnovsky-Gorely volcanic group, which is made up of three volcanoes. It is on the territory of South Kamchatka Nature Park. It is 45km north from Paratunka, 70km away from Petropavlsovsk-Kamchatksy and 70km away from Yelizovo.

This volcano of the eastern range belongs to Mutnovsky-Gorely volcanic group which is made up of 3 volcanoes. It is 45km north from Paratunka, 70km to the north-east of Petropavlsovsk-Kamchatksy and 70km north from Yelizovo.

Gorely is a large, long-lived shield-type volcano that is currently in an eruptive phase. Prior eruptions occurred in 1980-81 and 1984-86.

Several complexes compose the overall volcanic structure:

- ancient Pra-Gorely volcano which measures 20–25 km in diameter;

- a 12 km diameter caldera;

- thick stratum of ignimbrites totaling a volume of 100 km3;

- post-caldera eruption cinder cones;

- modern edifice – “Young Gorely” composed of three large superimposed cones and 11 associated craters forming a NW-SE trending intra-caldera ridgeline;

- a complex of 40 modern subsidiary cones on the slopes of “Young Gorely”.

Day 7. Dachnye hot springs.

The Dachniye hot springs are located in the north part of a great intermountain cuphole which borders on the Mutnovsky volcano in the south, the Dvugorbaya and the Skalistaya hills in the west and north, and the Zhyrovsky volcano in the east.

Earlier there were several groups of springs in the gullies and shallows at the bottom of the Skalistaya (Rocky) hill. There were many major and small vapour and water streams of different temperature.

The detailed observation of the springs adjoined area led to the conclusion about the major underground hydrothermal basin and made scientists start the prospecting. The prospect confirmed the underground heat enough for hydrothermal power plant. That’s why the Mutnovskayageothermal power plant was built.

Only one group of the springs remained - the most powerful and interesting west group. It is located in deep and steep gully. There are several warm grounds at the left slope with vapour streams and pools. There is a major pool at the bottom with the strongest vapour streams. A powerful steam-water fountain rises in the brook. The hot brook bed is dammed, and the bath water body is formed there.

Spokoiny (quiet) waterfall is located on the stream of the same name. Its springs from the caldera of volcano Gorely and flows into the middle reaches of Vilyucha River. The waterfall is 16 meters high and 5-6 meters wide. In this area the stream is narrow. 80 meters from it, a trail leading to Vilyuchinskiye hot springs was created. Siberian dwarf pine trees and alder bush growing on the steep slopes around the waterfall complete the beauty of the landscapes. It is part of South Kamchatka Nature Park.
